    Edward F. Melber Sr. Edward F. Melber Sr., 83, of Bear Creek Lakes, Jim Thorpe, passed away on Friday, March 20, in his home with his family at his side. He was the husband of Constance B. (Clay) Melber. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Oct. 6, 2014. Born in Mauch Chunk, he was a son of the late Nathan L. Melber Sr. and Dollie E. (Pry) Melber. He was a 1949 graduate of the former East Mauch Chunk High School. Melber was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and served as a medical corpsman on the U.S.S. Repose in Korea and Japan. He was a licensed funeral director since 1955 and retired from the Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, where he had worked for his father until owning and operating the business, retiring in 2009. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in the Heights, Jim Thorpe, where he had served many terms on the council. The deceased had been president of the former YMCA directors of Jim Thorpe. He was a chief deputy coroner of Carbon County for over 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 304, Jim Thorpe, the Club Chateau fishing club along the Lackawaxen River and the NRA. Ed loved to fish, hunt deer, turkeys and especially grouse, for which he was well known. Besides his wife Connie, he is survived by four children, sons, Edward F. Melber Jr., RPH, and his wife, Anne, of Jim Thorpe, Thomas N. Melber, and his wife, Mary, of Weissport, and Robert J. Melber of Apache Junction, AZ, and a daughter, Susan D., wife of Ricky Meckes of Jim Thorpe; four sisters, Margaret Hartman and Adelle, wife of Bernard Kuhla, both of Jim Thorpe, Natalie Mayor of Puyallup, WA, and Raelene Bevich of Lehighton; three brothers, Nathan L. Melber Jr., and his wife, Joan, James H. Melber, and his wife, Nancy, and Harry K. Melber, and his wife, Shelley, all of Jim Thorpe; four grandchildren, Marie Heydt, Nathan Melber, Joshua Melber and Kara Melber; five great-grandchildren, Levi, Gabriel, Ava, Dominic and Colleen; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a son, Joseph Clay Melber; and a brother, Glenn Melber.

    Nathan L. Melber Sr., 85, a Carbon County funeral director for 40 years, died Monday in his home at 530 Center St., Jim Thorpe. He was the husband of Dollie E. (Pry) Melber. They were married 64 years this month.
    He and his son, Edward F. of Jim Thorpe, operated the Nathan L. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, until 1973 when he retired and his son took over the business. It then became the Edward F. Melber Funeral Home.
    The elder Melber received his funeral license in 1934 and was the third generation of morticians in his family. He worked for his uncle at the former Edward F. Melber Funeral Home in Upper Mauch Chunk.
    He also was an embalmer for the former Wendell Swartz Funeral Home, Lehighton; the former Heller Funeral Home, Weissport; the former John Garrett Funeral, Summit Hill, and the former Lamont H. Zimmerman Funeral Home, Lehighton.
    Melber also was a furniture upholsterer, 1930-38.
    Born in Upper Mauch Chunk, he was a son of the late Harry and Edna (McLean) Melber.
    He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, 6th and North streets, Jim Thorpe.
    He was elected to Jim Thorpe National Bank's board of directors in 1940 and was chairman of the board from 1986 until 1988 when he was named director emeritus.
    In 1988, he was one of 42 Carbon County voters inducted into the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame.
    Survivors: Wife and son; other sons, Nathan Jr., James Sr. and Harry, all of Jim Thorpe; daughters, Margaret, wife of James Hartman, Adelle, wife of Bernard Kuhla, and Natalie, wife of Vincent Mayor, all of Jim Thorpe, and Raelene, wife of William Bevich of North Brunswick, N.J.; brother Adam of Pittsburgh; 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Glenn.

    Mrs. Dollie E. Melber

    Mrs. Dollie E. Melber, 93, died Monday in Maple Shade Meadows, Nesquehoning. She was the widow of Nathan L. Melber Sr., who died in 1993.

    Born in Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Delia (Pry) Oppold.

    She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sixth and North streets, Jim Thorpe, where she sang in the choir for many years and belonged to the Lutheran Church Women and the Quilting Group.

    She was a past president of the former Jim Thorpe Women's Club and in 1995 was named Jim Thorpe's "Mother of the Year."

    Surviving are four daughters, Margaret Hartman, Adelle, wife of Bernard Kuhla, and Natalie, wife of Vincent Mayor, all of Jim Thorpe, and Raelene, wife of William Bevich of Lehighton; four sons, Edward F., and his wife, Constance (Clay), Nathan L. Jr., and his wife, Joan (Garret), James, and his wife, Nancy (Heydt), and Harry, and his wife, Shelley (Williams), all of Jim Thorpe; 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

    She was also preceded in death by a son Glenn, who died in 1965; two sisters, Goldie Bowman and Lillian Watkins; and a brother George.

    The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arrangements.
