The Moulthrop Family of Connecticut by Nelson Osgood Rhoades, 1918 Eliju. (Joseph, John, Matthew, Matthew), b. 1747; d. October 27, 1782; m. November 21, 1770, at East Haven, and lived there till birth of first child, then to Wolcott, Mary Hotchkiss, (b. There is some discrepancy in these records. The Srgt Elihu Molthrop who was serving in Captain Bradley's company was discharged in 1787 - 5 years after the death of the Elihu Molthrop whose death is found in the Barbour Collection. There may have been two men from East Haven named Elihu Molthrop. The Sergeant Elihu Molthrop serving in Captain Van Deursen's Company was on the payroll at the same time as the Sgt Elihu Molthrop in Captain Bradley's Company. However, I doubt there was a third Elihu Molthrop so I am guessing one of these men who served in the Revolution is the one married to Mary Hotchkiss, probably the one serving with Captain Van Deursen's Company. There are also two dates of death for Mary Moulthrop. The family histories say the widow of this Elihu Molthrop died 30/Mar/1826 and the The East Haven (CT) Death Register lists "Mary Moulthrop, widow of Elihu Moulthrop Jan 30,1807 at 61"

3. Moulthrop, Polly was born on 17 Jul 1776 in New Haven, New Haven Co., CT; died on 09 Nov 1862.
4. Moulthrop, Esther was born about 1778 in New Haven, New Haven Co., CT.
5. Moulthrop, Elihu Jr. was born in 1780; died on 25 Oct 1853 in Wolcott, New Haven Co., CT; was buried in Wolcott, New Haven Co., CT.

Sergeant John Moulthrop, (Matthew-Matthew) born 5th February 1667-8; died 14th February, 1713. Married 29th June, 1692; Abigail Bradley, born 9th September, 1671; died 3rd September, 1743. Daughter of Joseph, born 4th January, 1646; married 24th October, 1667, Silence Brockett, daughter of John Brockett, of New Haven. Lived in East Haven. Abigail was admitted to the Church, September, 1743. In Colonial Wars. His estate was probated in 1714, Abigail, his wife, being executrix, and was recorded in Volume IV of the New Haven Probates.

John married Bradley, Abigail on 29 Jun 1692 in New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. Abigail (daughter of Bradley, Joseph and Brockett, Silence) was born on 09 Sep 1671 in New Haven, New Haven Co., CT; died on 03 Sep 1743 in East Haven, New Haven Co., CT. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Matthew Moulthrip, (Matthew) born in England; died East Haven, 1st February, 1690-1 age 53. He was at East Haven in 1638; married 26th June, 1662 Hannah Thompson, daughter of John and Eleanor Thompson. Authorities differ as to Matthew's birth. His death record, shown above, places his birth in 1638, but history refers to his birth in England as stated. His will, distributing an estate, was probated 10th June, 1691, and recorded in Volume II of the New Haven Records. Allen Bull and Isaac Bradley were appraisers. He took the Oath of Fidelity in 1644. He lived in New Haven until his purchase of a farm in East Haven Village. His residence in 1648 was in the Oystershell-fields Quarter.

Matthew married Thompson, Hannah on 26 Jun 1662 in New Haven, New Haven Co., CT.
