they had four or more children. Having been early left an orphan he had little education, but seems to have been a successful farmer in Greenland. He lived with his grandfather Thomas after the death of his parents and inherited a part of his estate.

John married Swain, Prudence on 26 Dec 1667. Prudence was born on 29 Dec 1654; died about 1717. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

He had seven children. On August 20, 1657. as they were going out of the harbor on their way to Boston, he, his wife and daughter Sarah and five others, were cast away and drowned.

John married Palmer, Ann. Ann died on 20 Aug 1657 in Hampton, Rockingham Co., NH. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Thomas Philbrick is said to have come from Lincolnshire in England. Old records preserved in the family state that he and his family came in 1630 in the Arabella. This vessel was one of seventeen ships which in that year brought colonists to Massachusetts. The Arabella, in which came Govenor Winthrop, Sir Richard Saltonstall and others, sailed from Yarmouth, April 8, 1630, and arrived at Salem June 14. The next month the passengers in this and other vessels settled at Charlestown; but soon after divided, and a part with Saltonstall, settled in Watertown. Thomas Philbrick and family were there in 1636. His homestead was on the northwest corner of Belmont and Lexington streets.

In 1639, the second summer after the settlement of Hampton, NH, John, son of Thomas Philbrick, moved to Hampton; and it seems that his brother Thomas soon followed him. It is said that the first settlers of Hampton were attracted to the place by the fishing, the fowling, the best of clams, and the salt marshed almost ready for the scythe.

In 1645, Thomas Philbrick, a grantee of eight lots, sold his estate in Watertown, and in 1650 he moved to Hampton, where his elder sons lived,

Thomas married Knapp, Elizabeth on 04 Jun 1615 in Bures County, Suffolk, England. Elizabeth (daughter of Knapp, William and Reade, Elizabeth) was born in Bures County, Suffolk, England; died on 19 Dec 1663 in Hampton, Rockingham Co., NH. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
