    Notes:

Obituary 1924-" Another shock was administered this community this morning when the announcement was made that Henry C. Melber, the oldest undertaker in the county, and prominent business man had died at 3:30am after a very brief illness at his home at 424 Centre Street, aged 66 years, 9 months and 6 days. Death resulted from complications. He went to bed only two days before his death.
He was a man of remarkable physique and vigorous health and was always at his post of duty, so that the announcement of his death was a surprise and a shock. Since the death of his son Fred, a year ago, Mr. Melber has not been his real self, the death having a very depressing effect upon him. He was born at the Weighlock , near the old Lehigh Valley Railroad station, and on April 7, 1874 he began learning the undertaking business under the late Leonard Yeager and after acquiring the trade he engaged in business. Later he purchased the furniture store of the late Fred C. Miller.
A sad feature in the connection with his death was the fact that his friends were arranging to celebrate the golden jubilee of his entrance into business on April 7 next , but the cruel hand of fate prevented the consummation of the happy event . His son Edward will succeed him and continue the business. Mr Melber was an upright citizen of high principle, fair in all his transactions, for which he earned the universal respect and confidence of the public. He was a good citizen in all that the word implies: an exemplary husband and father, a charitable citizen and a man interested in the welfare of the community. He was of a cheerful disposition and spread good cheer in his presence. By his death the community loses one of its most successful and prominent business men, whose life and achievements were examples to be emulated. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Diligent Fire Company.
Besides his widow the following children survive: Mrs. Anna Stermer, Allentown; Mrs. Mame Hummel, Harry and Edward Melber of town; also these sisters and brothers: Mrs Pierce Daffner, of town; Mrs. Louis Nesley, Buffalo, NY; Fred Melber, Allentown; 11 grand and 3 great grand children. Funeral Sunday at 2pm at the house, Rev. W. M. Rehrig officiating . Interment in Mauch Chunck cemetery.
