  [] John was a distiller in Tiverton and a prominent citizen. He was a member of the General Assembly and for years he was a moderator for the town meetings which were held in his house. John Howland represented the town of Tiverton in the state legislature in 1747-1748. All of his children died before him except for Thomas, who was his sole heir.
