    • Vincent Jerome Mayor, 88, of North Street, Jim Thorpe, died on Friday, Aug. 23, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. Vince was born Aug. 3, 1925, in East Mauch Chunk to the late Joseph and Blanche (Redline) Mayor. He graduated in 1943 from the former East Mauch Chunk High School and joined the U.S. Navy that same year.While serving in the Navy during World War II, he was an aviation radioman and trained at naval air stations in Jacksonville, Fla. (Cecil Field), and Hutchinson, Kan. After leaving the Navy, he married Natalie G. Melber on July 24,1954, and operated the former Mayor's Auto Service, an auto repair business in Jim Thorpe, with his brother, Robert Mayor, for 40 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sixth and North streets, Jim Thorpe. In retirement, he enjoyed reading, woodworking and crossword puzzles. He remained an avid aviation and military history enthusiast, frequenting air and space museums and devouring anything "airplane" related. Vince was a devoted and loving father of four, participating as a Little League coach and sharing his enjoyment of hiking, music and lifelong learning with his children during their childhood and beyond. His children wrote, "Dad had a kind heart and cared deeply about our success and happiness. He was always on your side and inspired us all with his unwavering love and support. We are grateful and cherish his love and our wonderful memories." Vince is survived by his wife, Natalie (Melber) Mayor; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and George Smith of Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter, Kim Mayor of San Francisco, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Michael Barclay of Great Falls, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, David Mayor and Brooke Upton of Puyallup, Wash.; his sister, Joan Pfeiffer of Jim Thorpe; grandchildren, Brian Smith of Tacoma, Trevor Smith of Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Michael Barclay Jr. of Great Falls; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Ellie Jade Smith of Camp Pendleton and Lily Smith of Tacoma. Vince was predeceased by his brother, Robert Mayor of Jim Thorpe. Service: The family will hold a private memorial service.
