Conrad Bloss imm.from Germany 21 September 1742. Settled in Heidelberg Township, Northampton County, PA. One of the founders of the Heidelberg Reformed Church. Owned most of the land between the church and the Lehigh River. Married Anna Magdalena Daubenspeck. Revolutionary War at 57 yrs of age, killed in the Battle of Long Island 1776 (Pa. archives-5th series-Vol 8, Page 26, 1st Bat. of Associators, Co., Northampton, Pa., Capt. Nicholas Kern Aug. 6th, 1776.)

September 21, 1742: Immigrated to America from Rotterdam on the ship "Francis and Elizabeth" (George North, Master) that arrived in Philadelphia, PA. He resided in Heidelberg, PA. as a farmer. Colonial records indicate he owned 25 acres of land in Bucks Co., PA at the time of 1750. He enlisted in Captain Nicholas Kern's Company. August 27, 1776: Killed in the Battle of Long Island, NY in battle of the Revolutionary War -- Served under George Washington (War Records - PA Archives Vol 8, Series 5th pg. 26)" from letter David T. Blose to Ruth Smith dated September 1, 1954. He was about 50 years of age at the time of his death.

"When Conrad was leaving Germany for America, he traveled down the Rhine river. Each Castel along the river placed a passage toll on travelers. Conrad spent all his money just getting down the Rhine river. He came to America with no money."

"On August 6th, 1776, Conrad Bloss was a private in the Third Co., 1st Battalion of the Northampton County Associators, Capt. Nicholas Kern's Compnay, then in camp at Perth Amboy, New Jersey, which composed a part of the Fying Camp of Ten Thousand Men, commanded by Col. Hart in the Battle of Long Island.

It is history that most of the men of the 1st Battalion were either killed or wounded in that memorable engagement with the British on August 27th, 1776.

Doubtless Conrad Bloss lost his life in this battle as we find no trace of him after that date. His wife, Anna Magdalena, appears as a widow in the Heidelberg Reformed Church Records of 1781 when she acted as sponsor for her granddaughter of the same name, a child of John George Bloss, the eldest son of Conrad."

Notes:

John George Bloss, eldest son of Conrad, was born Oct 15, 1744. He was a farmer, miller, and distiller. On June 29, 1767, he purchased his father's farm, consisting of 278 acres and sixty-three perches for which he paid 250 pounds. On May 20, 1800, he was granted four acres and 137 perches - this tract of 215 acres and he was granted another tract of 215 acres and 130 perches, bordering on Mahoning Creek, in Penn township, Carbon county. On Dec 9, 1784, he took out a warrant for ten acres. George Bloss and David Wyant took out a warrant bearing date Dec 9, 1784, for 220 acres. In 1772, he paid Proprietary tax amounting to three pounds and eight shillings. In 1785 he paid Federal tax on 283 acres of land, three horses and five head of cattle, amounting to two pounds, five shilling and five pence. On March 7, 1806, John George Bloss sold all the land he then owned; but he continued to reside on the homestead with his son Henry until his death. His farm in Washington township, Lehigh county, he sold to two of his sons, John George, Jr.bought 137 acres, fifty perches paid 850 pounds; Henry bought 141 acres, fifteen perches, paid 850 pounds; John Lentz, his son-in-law bought the tract of 215 acres and 130 perches in Penn township,
Carbon county, for which he paid 250 pounds.

During the Revolutionary War, John George Bloss served in the Northampton County militia. In 1778 he was second Lieutenant of the Fifth Company in the Third Battalion.
In 1780, he served as a private eight days on the frontier against the Indians in the Sixth Battalion as is shown in the pay roll of Capt. Conrad Reder's company. In 1781, he served as private in the Sixth Battalion, seventh class as substitute for John Reedy, from May 16 to July 16. Again, in1782, he was a private in the Sixth Battalion. John George Bloss was married two times. His first wife's name is Anna Barbara.

John George Bloss' second wife was Elizabeth --, who survived him at his death, which occurred April 19, 18185, after an illness of about four days. In his will which was made April 15, and probated in Allentown, May 16, 1815, his sons, Christian and John George, Jr. were appointed executor.
In the old cemetery adjoining the Heidelberg church a tombstone still marks conspicuously the resting place of the last remains of John George Bloss:

The original tombstone is located in the Old Cemetary on the left side of the Heidelberg Union Church. There are many graves in that part of the cemetary but few surviving headstones. Sadly, this headstone was recently hit by a car and destroyed, but generously replaced by the Church Congregation. It is now a beautiful white marble headstone.

Colonial records indicate he had a grist mill, 50 acres of land, 1 horse and 1 cow. He moved to Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania in 1780. In 1785, he owned 176 acres of land in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania as of June 20,1809.

Nathan Drumbore, a successful farmer residing in Packer township, Carbon county, was born in the Mahoning valley, in Mahoning township, Carbon county, in 1845, and is descended from German ancestry. The family was established by German emigrants in the valley during the pioneer epoch in its development, and since that time representatives of the name have been numbered among the industrious and valued citizens of that locality. Thomas Drumbore, the father, was born in Lynn township, Lehigh county, and became a wealthy farmer of Mahoning valley, owning and operating over two hundred acres of very valuable farming land. He was both practical and progressive in his agricultural pursuits, and his labors brought to him a very gratifying financial return. He married Miss Kate Fenstermacher, who was also born in Lynn township, Lehigh county, and his death occurred in 1867, while his wife survived him until 1900. In their family were seven children: Nathan, Alfred, William, Henry, Elvina, Drucilla and Lena.

He married Miss Kate Fenstermacher, who was also born in Lynn township, Lehigh county, and his death occurred in 1867, while his wife survived him until 1900. In their family were seven children: Nathan, Alfred, William, Henry, Elvina, Drucilla and Lena.
Nathan Drumbore was reared under the parental roof, and acquired his education in the public schools. His life has been devoted to the butchering business and to agricultural pursuits, and in both lines of activity he has prospered. At one time he owned a tract of land in Mahoning valley, where he resided for a number of years, or until 1888. At that time he removed to Lehighton, where he engaged in the butchering business, remaining a resident of the latter place for ten years. He enjoyed a good patronage during that period, and at the end of the decade sold his interest and removed to Weatherly, making his home there until 1903. In that year he purchased his present farm, situated in Packer township, Carbon county. This comprises one hundred acres of very rich and arable land adjoining the corporation limits of the borough of Weatherly on the west. He devotes his attention to the raising of the various cereals best adapted to the soil and climate, and in connection with his farming interests he also conducts a livery stable, which is largely patronized by the people of the borough. He keeps good horses and fine carriages, and has secured a liberal patronage in this department of his business. His farm is improved with all modern conveniences and equipments and is indeed, one of the valuable properties of the community.
In 1869 Mr. Drumbore was united in marriage to Miss Dreher, of Lehighton, Pennsylvania. She is a representative of a family of farming people who through generations have been worthy citizens of this state. Her parents were Casper and Mary (Beil) Dreher, and their family numbered thirteen children, eight of whom are now living, namely: Renerville, Mary, Ellen, Elvin, Charles, Emma, Ida, and George. To Mr. and Mrs Drumbore have been born ten children, as follows: Elsie, Clara, Harry, Bert, Charles, Edward, Robert, William, George and Alexander.

Oscar A. Blose
Oscar A. Blose, husband of Agnes M., nee Rex, Blose, died at his home in Slatedale on Tuesday morning. He was in his 72nd year.

He was born in Slatedale, a son of the late William and Sallie, nee Hoffman, Blose. His death followed an illness of four weeks.

Mr. Blose was a member of the Slatington lodge, No. 624, I.O.O. F; Washington camp, No. 323, P.O.S. of A; Keota lodge, No. 1; Citizens Fire Co., Slatedale, and he was also treasurer of Slatedale Union Sunday school. many years ago he was interested in the Thomas Slate Co.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Walter S. Blose, Allentown; a daughter, Sylvia Blose, at home; 2 brothers, Nathaniel, Hatboro, and William G., Slatedale, a sister, Mrs. Alphena Muthard, Slatedale, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 pm from the Ellwood Heintzelman funeral home, Slatedale, with interment in the Slatedale cemetery.

Dorothy L. Melber, 77, of 623 South Ave., Jim Thorpe, died Sunday in St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of Bruce R. Melber, who died in 1989.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Morris and Ida (Markley) Moulthrop.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Jim Thorpe.
Survivors: Sons, Donald of Jim Thorpe and Bruce at home; daughters, Phyllis, wife of Ronald Esrang, Mrs. Joyce Reed and Donna, wife of Richard Armbruster all of Jim Thorpe, Mrs. Doris Farrell of Bethlehem and Sharon, wife of Elbert Damon of Manchester, York County; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Obituary
Joyce C. Reed, of Jim Thorpe, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 17. She was the wife of the late William C. Reed, who passed away in 1979. Joyce was born in Mauch Chunk and was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Moulthrop) and Bruce Melber. She worked for many years as a secretary/bookkeeper at Neast & Co and later became secretary/bookkeeper for Penn Hill Furniture. She graduated from Mauch Chunk High School Class of 1952 for which she was one of the speakers. She loved her family and enjoyed the time spent with her brothers and sisters and her many nieces and nephews. She loved her church family at St. John's Lutheran Church In-The-Heights, Jim Thorpe, where she taught Sunday school for more than 55 years and loved every minute that she spent with the children. She was an inspiration to all, both students and teachers, whose lives she had touched. Her favorite pastime was playing the piano, which provided her with hours of entertainment, putting puzzles together, gardening and nature, and coming up with crafty projects that she would make and give to her family and friends. She had good neighbors and friends, and appreciated everything that they would do for her, and always tried to be there for anyone that needed a friend, even people that she didn't know. When she was in rehab in the Mahoning Valley Nursing Home, her goal was to see a smile on everyone she met, so she would stop to talk to everyone, or just reach out and touch them and give them a big smile and tell them to have a nice day. Joyce will be missed dearly by her many friends and family. The world is a better place for her having lived. Joyce is survived by sisters, Phyllis Esrang of Jim Thorpe; Doris Farrell of Bethlehem; Sharon, wife of Al Damon of Manchester; Donna, wife of Richard Armbruster of Jim Thorpe; brothers, Bruce Melber, Donald Melber and wife Dianne; all of Jim Thorpe, and many nieces and nephews.
