Obituary: "Friends of Mrs. Elizabeth ghost McFadden were grieved to learn of her death at her late home in Toledo, Ohio, a few days ago from burns she received when lifting a pan of water from range and her sleeve caught fire. Her daughter, Mrs. Mrytle Hunsberger of Barkeyville, was summoned and spent the few days she lived with her. She became unconscious and lingered until her death. Mrs. McFadden was born near Pine Hill on a farm now owned by Mrs. Norman Mays and was daughter of John and Katherine Surrena Ghost and was one of several children, the last, Crafton Ghost of New Castle, being only surviving member. Married late Perry McFadden and is survived by three children, Emory and Oscar of Toledo, and Mrs. Myrtle Hunsberger of Barkeyville. After the death of her husband she sold their farm near Cyrus where they had lived and went to Toledo to live near her son. Was aged 82 years. Her mother lived to be almost 100 and, barring the accident she suffered, might have lived for many more years. A woman of quiet unassuming ways.....Body brought to Clintonville Wednesday for burial beside her husband. Isaac R. Galloway, of Wesley (Mechanicsville), Irwin township, father of Mrs. Hiram C. Foster, was born Oct. 11, 1844, in Mercer county, Pa., son of Thomas and Sarah (Ghost) Galloway. Thomas Galloway was seventeen years old when he came from Ireland to the United States, where three of his brothers, William, John and Isaac, were already settled, in Mercer and Venango counties. Pa. For fifteen years he was a farmer and merchant at Mechanicsville, Venango county, before and during the Civil war. having settled in this vicinity about 1851, on the farm now occupied by his son Isaac. After his sons left home he removed to the town and kept store, speiiJing the remainder of his life there and dying at the age of seventy- eight years. Though he had but seventeen cents at the time of his arrival in this country Thomas Galloway became a very prosperous man. His first purchase of land consisted of two hundred acres in Mercer county, which by his industry was converted into a good farm. He sold it to remove to Irwin township, Venango county, where the water was better, and though considerable of his property here was new land he transformed it into a valuable farm. He became an influential resident of this locality, serving many years as a justice of the peace. Politically he was a Democrat, in religious connection a. member of the M. E. Church at Pleasant View, one mile north of his home, where he is buried. Mr. Galloway married Sarah Ghost, a sister of Philip Ghost, of the southern part of Irwin township, and she survived him, reaching a more advanced age. Mr. and Mrs. Galloway became the parents of three sons and one daughter, namely: Craft C. lived on what is now the Fred Hovis farm in Irwin township and died there when he was past sixty years of age; Isaac R. is mentioned below ; John, who obtained a farm adjoining the home place, is now living retired at Barkeyville; Ellen is the wife of Walter Eakins, of Grove City. Thomas Galloway gave a farm to each of his three sons, two receiving parts of the home place and the other a tract two miles distant, while the daughter was given one near Pearl, this county.

Isaac R. Galloway inherited all of his father's home place, now having one hundred acres just south of Mechanicsville, as he added to his original holding. It is highly improved and has substantial buildings, Mr. Galloway having erected the present house in 1890 and the barn in 1904, and there is a good vein of coal beneath which he has worked to some extent. He also owns a farm in the Bullion oil field, which yields him considerable royalty from its producing wells. For three or four years, during the oil excitement, Mr. Galloway kept a store at Parker, but farming has been his principal occupation. He has been a public-spirited citizen and has served as constable and in other township offices. In political principle he is a Prohibitionist. His religious connection is with the M. E. Church at Mechanicsville, in which he holds the position of class leader.
On March 14, 1870, Mr. Galloway was married to Mary Jane Bonner. daughter of Archibald Bonner and sister of Harvey Bonner, of Irwin township, and they have had three children, namely: Susann Cyrene is the wife of John Eakins, a lumber manufacturer, of Harrisville, Butler Co., Pa.; Sarah Ellen is the wife of Hiram Clinton Foster; John A1- vin, who lives on the home farm, married Clara Adams and has three children, Eugene Isaac, Mildred Catherine and Forrest Allen.

JOHN FULTON GALLAWAY, a well-known citizen and substantial business man of Hilliard, Butler County, Pennsylvania, is proprietor of the hotel at that village and has a well-established business. He was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, April 8, 1849, and is a son of Thomas and Sarah (Ghost) Gallaway and a grandson of William Gallaway.

Thomas Gallaway was born in Ireland and was one of the following children born to his parents: William; John; Thomas; Isaac, who married Eliza Kohlter, daughter of John Kohlter of Mercer County; and Eliza, deceased. Thomas came to the United States at the age of seventeen years and landed at New York City with just seventy-five cents in his pocket. He received employment at blasting rock in the construction of the Erie Canal, and then worked for a distiller in New York State. He was an industrious man, and of a frugal and saving disposition, and while thus employed accumulated enough money to purchase a farm of 150 acres in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. It was a heavily timbered tract, but little of the land having been cleared. He cleared the farm and lived upon it for a time, then purchased the Ross tract of land, consisting of 300 acres, on which he engaged in stock raising on an extensive scale. He at the same time carried on a general store at Mechanicsville, in Venango County. He married there to Sarah Ghost, a daughter of Philip Ghost, of Venango County, and they reared the following children: Craft, who married Mary Ellen Atwell, a daughter of John Atwell of Mercer County, and has three children,-Thomas, Clyde and Elizabeth; Isaac, who married Mary Jane Bonner, a daughter of Archie Bonner of Venango County, by whom he has one son and two daughters,-John, Elizabeth and Susan; John F., whose name heads this sketch; Ann Elizabeth, deceased; Mary, deceased; Lytle, deceased; and Martha, deceased.

John Fulton Gallaway attended school in Venango County, after which he engaged in farming and clerked in the store conducted by his father. He purchased eighty-five acres of land one-half mile south of Westley P. O. He went from there to Callery Junction during the oil excitement and teamed, having three teams. These he traded for a store and stock of merchandise at Barkeyville, Venango County, paying the difference in value in cash. He went from there to Mechanicsville, where he rented the Woods property for one year, then purchased that farm. He later traded that farm for sixty-five acres of land located about two miles north of Harrisville, in Butler County, and carried on general farming until the marriage of his son, Walter, when he left the farm in the latter 's charge. He then returned to Mechanicsville, and after a time sold his property to Robert B. Eakin and moved to Richland Township, Butler County, where he purchased fifty acres of coal land. He later came to Hilliard and in competition with others obtained the contract for the Star Mail Route from Hilliard to Petrolia. When the rural free delivery was established he was given Route No. 52, over which he carried the mail for two years and three months. He then purchased the hotel at Hilliard, which he has since conducted with uninterrupted success.
Mr. Gallaway was united in marriage with Miss Caroline Hoffman, daughter of Walter Hoffman of Venango County, and they have four children: Thomas, who married Emma Syrena, daughter of Finley Syrena, and has three children-Ralph, Raymond and Leonard; Walter, who married Blanche Syrena, a daughter of John Syrena; Mary, who married John A. Blair, son of A. N. Blair, and has three children- Marie, John Freeman and Edna; and Ida. who married J. S. Kohlmyre, son , of Marion Kohlmyre of Butler County, and has one child, Althica. Religiously, they are members of the M. E. Church. Politically, Mr. Gallaway is a Prohibitionist.

Services for Mrs. Sarah Ellen Foster, widow of Hiram C. Foster, who died Tuesday, 17 January, 1961, in the Franklin Hospital, were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Burger Funeral Home. The Rev. H. L. Knappenberger, Jr., pastor of the First Methodist Church officiated and during the service read "In the Garden," and "On the Death of An Aged Friend." Interment was made in the Franklin Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Kenneth Eakin, Kenneth Martin, Forrest Galloway, Robert Burns, Ren Latchaw and Raymond Woodard.
