Notes |
- Betty Rose Harmuth was born 17 September 1931 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. She was the first child of Frank Harmuth, Jr (1912-1981) and Elizabeth A (nna) Wagner (1911-1977). Betty had two siblings, Evelyn Anna (1932-) and Robert Franklin (1935-). Betty graduated from the local high school and received her Registered Nurses training at Reading Hospital, Reading, Pennsylvania, graduating about 1951.
After working as a registered Nurse for a number of years, Betty entered the University of Pennsylvania where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1959. In 1960 Betty entered Rutgers University from which she received, in June 1961, her Master of Science in Nursing degree as a Clinical Specialist in Psychiatry. She was unable to attend graduation because the birth of Jesse III was imminant. After the birth of her children, Betty never practiced nursing.
In 1985, with her husband, Betty started Newsom Seed Inc. at Rockville, Maryland, a wholesaler of grass seed and related items. Betty was President and major stockholder of Newsom Seed until her untimely death from lung cancer in May 1991.
